How to disable the Opus D1X SOS Button

Opus D10, Opus D12, Opus D14 Two-Way Radios
Background Information

Customers may need to change the way that their radios are configured and operate.

Generally, this is something that is best left to your supplier. There are many different settings within modern two-way radios and making the wrong change can lead to communication and operation issues. Changes that you make are entirely at your own risk.

However, in some cases a simple change can be managed by the customer and will avoid radios being returned for re-programming.

It is worth noting that suppliers will usually store a copy of the original radio configuration file to ensure future radio supplies are compatible. Any changes that you make will not be reflected in future purchases.

You will need to obtain and install the correct CPS for your radio. Instructions are here.

Disable the SOS Button

Before starting, ensure that you have a fully charged battery on your radio and it is switched off.

You will need a copy of the Opus D1X CPS program (V2.00.25.04 or later) and a PC programming lead.

  1. Close any radio related programs on your PC.
  2. Run the CPS program on your PC. You may need to run this in Administrator mode.
  3. Connect the programming lead to your PC but not the radio.
  4. Connect the programming cable to your radio (DO NOT TURN ON THE RADIO).
  5. Turn on your radio.
  6. DO NOT TURN OFF YOUR DEVICE.
  7. To read the current radio configuration click the 'Read' button or press CTRL+R.
  8. Press 'OK' to confirm.
  9. A green progress bar will indicate the status.
  10. When complete a 'Read Successfully!' message will pop-up.
  11. Press 'OK' to close the message window.
  12. We recommend saving a copy of the data to act as a backup. To do this, click 'Save', type a suitable file name at the prompt and click 'Save'.
  13. At the left of the CPS window you will see the different parameter headings arranged in a tree structure. Click the '+' button to the left of General Settings.
  14. This will expand the tree. Click 'Buttons'.
  15. You will now see how your buttons are currently configured. There is a short-press action and a long-press action.
  16. The Orange SOS button actions are denoted by the TK Short and TK Long setting.
  17. To disable the SOS button, click the appropriate drop-down list and select 'None'.
  18. Once you have completed your changes click the 'Write' button to send the information to the radio.
  19. At the prompt, press 'OK' and a green progress bar will indicate the status.
  20. When complete a 'Data Transmitted Successfully...' message will pop-up.
  21. Click 'OK' to close the message window.
  22. Turn off your radio.
  23. Disconnect the programming lead from your radio.
  24. If you need to update additional radios, repeat this process from step 4.
  25. Disconnect the programming lead from your PC and close the CPS program.
