Background Information
Before updating names or adding new contacts to your radio it is important to have a basic understanding of the way the radios communicate and identify themselves.
Like mobile phones, each radio has been programmed with its own numeric identity (each number must be unique on your radio system).
When communicating with other radios it is this identity that is passed over the airwaves. The number is matched to a corresponding entry in your contact list and the relevant name (sometimes called alias) is then displayed on the screen.
A group call also has a numeric identity and the corresponding group name (from the contact list) that you are calling is displayed when you transmit.
Since the contact list in each radio is independent, each radio in the system must be updated with new contacts or changes. If the details are not correct the radio will display misleading information, preventing effective communication. It is therefore important to maintain and update the details in your contact list correctly.
If a call is received from a radio without a corresponding contact list entry, the radios numeric identity (contact number) is displayed.
Although you can use friendly names (such as Dave and John) in your contact list we suggest using role based names (such as Sales 1, Engineer 1) which change less frequently and do not require updating when staff names change.
To facilitate your programming, we recommend that you keep an up-to-date table of contacts and their corresponding radio ID number.
The following instructions explain the process to edit or add contacts. If you cannot access one or more of these menus they may have been disabled by your radio system administrator.
