Update Opus D2X Radio Firmware

Opus D20, Opus D22, Opus D24 Two-Way Radios

Like most modern electronic devices, your two way radio runs on software. This type of software is known as firmware (FW).

Firmware is numbered sequentially with major, minor and subversions in the form 1.2.3. The higher the number, the more recent the firmware.

As we develop new features, introduce improvements and fix bugs we release firmware updates for our products. Generally speaking, if a radio works fine for you there is no need to update the firmware.

You can check the current firmware in your device if you have a copy of the CPS (Computer Programming Software) and a programming cable or, if your device has a screen, from the information menu (see below).

To check the current firmware on your D22 or D24 using the front keypad;

  1. Press the OK button.
  2. Use the Up/Down button to highlight Settings.
  3. Press the OK button.
  4. Use the Up/Down button to highlight Radio Info.
  5. Press the OK button.
  6. Use the Up/Down buttons to display the currently installed firmware version (e.g. V3.01.01).
  7. If you press a button accidentally, just press the Back button to step back.

If you cannot locate the relevant menu, access to this section may have been restricted by your system administrator.

If you encounter a bug with your radio, please speak with us. A firmware update may be available to resolve the issue. If not, assuming we can replicate the issue, we will request a firmware update from our software engineers.

Should you need to update the firmware in your device please follow these simple steps.

Firmware Update Procedure (Opus D20, Opus D22, Opus D24 only)

Before starting, ensure that you have a fully charged battery on your radio and it is switched off. You will also need to remove the accessory connector cover. If you have the Man Down alarm feature activated in your radio, keep the radio upright throughout the process.

You will need a copy of the relevant firmware upgrade tool for your radio. You may need to run this program in Administrator Mode to ensure that all access rights are granted correctly. Please contact us to request a copy of the firmware upgrade tool if you do not have this.

  1. Close any radio related programs on your PC and turn off the radio.
  2. Run the Firmware Upgrade Tool program on your PC. You may need to run this in Administrator mode.
  3. Connect the programming cable to your PC but not the radio.
  4. In the firmware update programme, click the Select (*.bin,*.boot) button.
  5. A file browser window will appear. Use this to locate and select the required .bin firmware file on your PC.
  6. Click the Open button in the File Browser window. The file name (with it's file path) will now be shown in the Firmware: box.
  7. Connect the programming cable to your radio (DO NOT TURN ON THE RADIO).
  8. Press and hold the orange button AND the PTT button on your radio together and turn on your radio.
  9. The radio LED will flash Red, Green, Orange sequentially to indicate that the Firmware Programming mode is active.
  10. Release the buttons.
  11. DO NOT TURN OFF YOUR DEVICE.
  12. A message confirming that the device is connected will appear in the Firmware Upgrade Tool.
  13. Press the Upgrade button.
  14. A green progress bar will also appear underneath the status box.
  15. It can take up to 2 minutes to complete the update.
