Update Opus Radio Programming

Applies to Opus D10, D12, D14, D20, D22, D24 Two-Way Radios

If you need to update the programming information in your radio, we may email you a new configuration file to upload to the radio.

This procedure assumes that you have installed the correct CPS (Customer Programming Software) and USB driver and you have one or more configuration files for your radio(s).

Update Procedure

Before starting, ensure that you have a fully charged battery on your radio and it is switched off. You will also need to remove the accessory connector cover. If you have the Man Down alarm feature activated in your radio, keep the radio upright throughout the process.

  1. Close any radio related programs on your PC and turn off the radio.
  2. Run the CPS program on your PC. You may need to run this in Administrator mode.
  3. In the CPS program, click File and then Open or press CTRL+O.
  4. A file browser window will appear. Use this to locate and select the required .rdbx file on your PC. We use a descriptive filename to differentiate radios within a single fleet.
  5. Click the Open button in the File Browser window. The file name (with it's file path) will now be shown at the top of the CPS program window and a programming menu tree will appear to the left of the screen.
  6. DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES TO SETTINGS.
  7. Connect the programming cable to your PC.
  8. Connect the programming cable to your radio.
  9. Turn on the radio.
  10. DO NOT TURN OFF THE RADIO UNTIL THE PROCESS IS COMPLETE.
  11. Press the Write button or CTRL+W.
  12. A pop-up 'Write' window will appear.
  13. Click OK or press 'O' or press the Return/Enter key on your keyboard to start the process.
  14. A green progress bar will appear with a Transmitting Data message.
  15. When complete a confirmation message will pop-up and the radio will reboot automatically.
  16. Press 'OK' to close the message window.
  17. Turn off the radio.
  18. Disconnect the programming cable from the radio.
  19. Test the radio to ensure that it operates correctly.
  20. If you need to update additional radios, repeat this process from step 3. Note that a different file is usually required for each radio.
